A new programme has launched to help New Forest residents, businesses, and communities make the most of ultrafast broadband, now available through Project Gigabit – the government-funded programme to enable hard-to-reach communities to access fast, reliable gigabit-capable broadband..
The Click and Connect New Forest initiative, delivered by YTKO Ltd, on behalf of New Forest District Council, offers free support to help people gain essential digital skills and benefit from faster internet.
Funded through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the initiative is designed to support:
- Residents – especially older adults and those who feel excluded from digital services
- Businesses – including micro and small enterprises looking to adopt new technology
- Community groups – aiming to strengthen local connections and reduce isolation
Cllr Derek Tipp, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economy, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the New Forest. As ultrafast broadband reaches more homes and businesses, it’s vital that people feel confident using it by equipping communities and businesses with the tools to succeed in a digital world. This initiative makes digital skills more accessible—whether you’re going online for the first time or looking to grow your business. By working with YTKO and local partners, we’re ensuring support is available where it’s needed most as well as helping our economy thrive.”
Liz Ratcliffe, YTKO Director said: “We’re proud to deliver this programme with New Forest District Council. Our practical, friendly approach – whether supporting individuals with everyday tasks, like assisting someone to book a GP appointment, or helping businesses adopt digital and AI tools to save time and money – ensures we tailor our support to local needs and meet people where they are, making a real impact across New Forest communities.”
The programme will be delivered in libraries, community centres, and business hubs across the district, with flexible support tailored to local needs. A Digital Resource Hub and downloadable toolkits will be available online, alongside a network of trained Digital Champions offering peer support.
