Trailblazer Self Employment and Enterprise Programme

This FREE programme is designed to help young people aged 18–21 build confidence, learn real skills and explore their next step — whether that’s starting a business, getting a job, gaining work experience, or just simply figuring things out.

Delivered by YTKO, a trusted local organisation with over 10 years’ experience supporting young people in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough and funded by the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority, this programme is designed around your needs, real life experience, and relevant know-how.

This programme is for you if you are:

  • Aged 18–21
  • Living in Cambridgeshire or Peterborough
  • Not currently in education, employment or training — or at risk of becoming NEET
  • Feeling unsure about work, money or your future
  • Interested in earning independently, being your own boss, or building skills for work

You don’t need:
❌ Business experience
❌ Qualifications
❌ Confidence (we’ll help you build it)

You do need:
✅ Curiosity
✅ Willingness to try something new
✅ A real interest in moving forward

Enterprise skills (no pressure, no jargon)

  • Learn how businesses really work
  • Access to startup mentors and speakers
  • Explore ideas and test them safely
  • Understand money, marketing and planning
  • Access to structured learning and practical online resources
  • Confidence, wellbeing & support to help build overall resilience

Wider skills for work & real opportunities

  • Build digital, numeracy and communication skills
  • Improve your CV and interview confidence
  • Learn time management, productivity and mindset skills
  • Get help preparing for work, not just talking about it
  • Access to a network of local employers and small businesses

We will design the programme around your needs, featuring in person and online options and onward modular support including:

  1. A skills & confidence diagnostic
  2. Enterprise training (3-day course)
  3. One-to-one coaching
  4. Workshops (confidence, wellbeing, skills)
  5. Employer connections or business exploration

You don’t have to do everything at once — we build the pathway with you.

Across Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, with a focus on:

  • Huntingdonshire
  • Peterborough

Sessions take place in:

  • Community venues
  • Youth-friendly spaces
  • Job Centres and partner hubs
  • Online (for flexibility)
  • Free to join
  • Designed for young people — not classrooms
  • Supportive, friendly coaches
  • Flexible routes into work or self-employment
  • No pressure to “have it all figured out”
  • Real connections to real opportunities
