Interview: Yarlington Housing Group residents

Our “Independence Road” service supported residents of Yarlington Housing Group in Somerset. Here’s what three of our clients, Suzanne & Ralph Sinclaire and Lisa Bonniface, said about their experience working with Independence Road and their Enterprise Advisor, Lydia Samuel.
_____

Name: Suzanne and Ralph Sinclair

Business:
‘Sue’s Lush Cakes and Puds’selling delicious homemade & celebration cakes at Yeovil market and local events

Why did you start a business?
Suzanne: “I’m a chef by trade, and I woke up in the middle of the night and thought ‘lets do cakes’!”

Ralph: “Someone at work wanted a cake and it went from there!”

How has Independence Road helped?
Suzanne: “Lydia has been fantastic. Let’s put it this way, we wouldn’t be where we are without her. I would recommend it 100%”

Ralph: “The knowledge and information and input into our business has been great. Business can be so complicated, but Lydia makes it easy.”

Plans for the future:

Suzanne: “The future is exciting now! No two days are ever the same. I’ve been approaching schools and talking to the council, plus working on ‘No Excuse’ our gluten, dairy and nut free range. We want to do six markets a week too. It’s great linking up with other clients like Lisa – we bounce ideas off each other.”

Ralph: “There are always new avenues to explore. We’re looking into a new vehicle or trailer, and moving to bigger premises too!”
_____

Name: Lisa Bonniface

Business:
‘Lisa B’s Party Needs’ – Bespoke party planning and special packages for parties, weddings and events.

Why did you start a business?
“I wanted to improve my life for myself and my daughter. I’m doing a job I enjoy; I love the independence and being my own boss. I want to show other mums that it can be done!”

How has Independence Road helped you?
“The workshops were the best thing I’ve ever done! It’s a relaxed, happy environment, not like college at all. You become one with the group, and it’s a lovely atmosphere to be in. The training changed my life and I always know I can pick up the phone and get help when I need it.”

Plans for the future:
“I’m really looking forward to the future. I’ve got several events and weddings in the pipeline, and I’m going to have a market stall with Suzanne on Friday’s in Yeovil. I work really well in harmony with Suzanne thanks to Lydia’s introduction. I’m planning to expand and build a family business with my partner and my son.”
